It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the passing of a true Camp Delaware original:
Known to everyone as “D.J.” he will be remembered fondly as an integral presence in Camp Delaware history. For many, D.J. was a constant in the ever-changing Delaware landscape. Although he never held the official title, for all intents and purposes D.J. was the caretaker of Camp Delaware and most of it’s memories for over half a century.
He will be missed.

“May The Gods of War Keep Them Well”

I remember him well, from the first summer he was there. It was 1944, or maybe 1945. Before that he had worked for a circus. He said he was wounded by an ant-eater, and that was the origin of his port wine spot. His name was the only thing recognizable that proved this was CD. Every old building and landmark is gone. I recognized nothing except the lake which may have been changed a little too..
